Steamboat Springs Resorts

Steamboat Springs Resorts
By Elizabeth Morgan

Steamboat Springs is one of the most popular skiing destinations in the United States. Located in the eastern region of Colorado, Steamboat is also recognized as the town with premier ski slopes amongst the international winter sports community.

In a town built around winter sports, the best places to stay are obviously the ski resorts. In Steamboat Springs, the resorts enhance the winter experience in many ways. Most resorts are located near popular ski slopes or at the summit of popular trails. Most resorts have facilities such as ski lifts, gondolas, rental skiing equipment and skiing instructors so that visitors can make the best use of the snow-covered slopes. Some resorts provide internal comforts such as bookstores and movie rental shops as well as an in-house winery. Steamboat Springs resorts are capable of taking away the winter chills through the convenience of saunas, spas and heated indoors swimming pools. The area around Steamboat Springs is abundant with geothermal springs as is amply evident by the city's name. A few resorts utilize the heat coming out of the Earth to give visitors the treat of steam bathing and soaking in the hot waters.

Determining an appropriate place to stay is often the most cumbersome part of planning a vacation. Most people are unacquainted with the dynamics of the area they wish to visit and so often end up making the wrong decisions. One way of getting round this problem is to use the Internet, which supports numerous travel related search engines and travel company websites. Some of these websites have online rating tools and give testimonial based comments n the facilities, pricing and services at the Steamboat Springs resorts. Travelers can compare prices online and even haggle the best deals to get some amazing bargains that are not even head of elsewhere. Nowadays, most hotels and resorts have their own individual web portals, equipped with online booking tools. Travelers can obtain addresses, a list of amenities as well as the rates through these portals.

Meguiars RV and Marine Boat Cleaners and Waxes Test Results

Meguiars RV and Marine Boat Cleaners and Waxes; Test Results
By Lance Winslow

One of the most famous and popular brands in the wax industry is Meguiars. Meguiars has stood the test of time as a brand name. Some of the after market competitors of theirs as well as the larger users of the product have complained that Meguiars has turned their back on the professional user market for the consumer market through their newest and largest customer Wal-Mart. Many in the auto, aircraft and boat detailing industries have even been critical of Meguairs recently because they feel this is a slap in the face to the loyal operator who has paid premium prices for quality products and now can see those with the Meguiars brand name on the shelves.

We tested the RV and Boat product lines from Meguiars. What we like about Meguiars RV and Boats detailing products line is that they have made a step by step guide for different levels of oxidation, surfaces and paints. Their Flagship soap Number 65 is excellent as well as their Gel Wash (Number 54) made for all gel coat surfaces. We felt that for a professional Boat Cleaning Business that these products were somewhat over priced and admit they work well but too costly for a small 16-ounce bottle. Unless you buy it online you will find the price outrageous at the local Marinas and Boat Stores such as the Marine West chain.

We did enjoy the sheeting action on the surfaces after use of the product. Using inline injection from a bucket of soapy water did not work very well. The product did appear very benign so we do not feel that a little soap getting into the water around the Marina would be any issue. On their cleaners and polishes for the Marine Industry we found ourselves okay with these products, but felt we had once again paid to much for them. Although the competition Star Brite is also heavy handed on the price points. I guess assuming that boat owners will be willing to pay more since it is for a boat. We did not see all that much difference between these products from the marine industries to that of the auto industry Meguiars product line. Perhaps a few small ingredient changes for UV gel coat protection and fancy repackaging, but you will have to be the judge on that.

Meguiars Color Restorer seems to be okay for what it is being able to remove small marks and scuffs, but we also found that a polymer solvent wax did the same for instance Auto Magics Sealer Wax or the Diamond Shine Products. We did not see the reason to purchase this product for professional use other than to keep the brands you use consistent. Also we found that these other waxes with solvent did not damage anything and actually worked better than the Color Restorer (Number 44) and the next up product Oxidation Remover (Number 49). The One Step Compound by Meguiars (Number 67) is not too impressive, but we are not fond of compounds anyway and the product is hard to use, thick and under whelming, although the results were decent, it did most of what you would expect it too. It did seem to have one other property that most products that we use in the industry did not have and that is that it seemed to put some properties back into the fiberglass. Someone had come up to me today and asked what was the best wax to use on an RV and fiberglass area. A lot has to do with the decals, surface, paint and level of oxidation. This same premise goes for boats, personal watercraft and yachts. The Waxes in the Meguiars line we were somewhat impressed with and we are relatively hard to please. So this is a thumbs-up for them. Their premium flagship wax it seemed to be adequate, on ease of use we give it a 5 on a scale of 1-10. It is said to last a long time, but on a salt-water boat we question what that means. Meguiars Pure Boat Wax (Number 56) seemed to work good yet we found it had in it Silicone, polymer blend with Brazilian Carnauba and the problem with this blend although the shine was excellent is that on Polyurethane there are issues with some silicones and with Imron there are issues with carnauba waxes. So if you take this special boat wax and apply it to the RVs with custom paints we have to wonder if we may cause issues. So this may not be the best for our team to use on the trucks but certainly good enough for the average citizen with a boat. When the average person washes their RV there are definite issues, read this article

Now for a good touch up product for a Boat Show account we did like the Quick Wax Marine Number 59, with a trigger spray and also the same product in an aerosol can. We also thought that it was smart of Meguiars to custom label all the car care products for their boat line. Similar to the way that Zep Chemicals often changes their product labels to conveniently be ready for another cleaning use. MSDS

http://www.msdssearch.com/

of course exactly the same for they have the same contents and ingredients and the directions the same as well. Now then the specialty cleaners for Meguiars Marine did also have non-skid deck and hull cleaner which worked well and the Hard Water Spot remover was good enough for government work and is of value for other uses as well. The Meguiars Gold Teak Oil seemed above average in quality and the test spot we did made us want to complete the entire boat deck, so we are very bullish on that product.

The All metal polish for bright work, was also very good and seemed better than the Never Dull Product for shine and better than the Mothers Aluminum Polish for ease of use. When we tried the Bilge Cleaner by Meguiars we laughed because it seems a little over doing it to make a specific product for that need. It did dissolve the grease but so does Simple Green for a lot less money. Here is a page on the Meguiars website where you can order the most popular of their Marine Products.

http://www.meguiars.com/storemeguiars/searchresults.cfm

Also if you are a private boat owner you can go to the Meguiars web site and they can give you a custom guide to which products to buy from them to help you clean your boat properly and wax it.

http://www.meguiars.com/marinerx.cfm

Which is a nifty value added service for the retail B2C online part of their business strategy, but to me it seems if they are going to peddle their wares art Wal-Mart why pay $30.00 for the Boat kit, $12.00 for the soap, all those cleaners and then shipping? We are always interested to see what types of marketing stuff or vendors and suppliers do and what type of strategies they employ. It is interesting to see them try new things and then change them later. Interactivity in web strategy is important and Meguiars seems to understand this very well and has obviously put some serious dollars into their website. At 2004 SEMA Show this year we noticed they had the same truck on display as our Blitz Mobile sitting on the corner of Convention Center Drive. Their unit was gloss black with the Meguiars Paint Scheme and during the show they had beautiful displays as always with information on their New Wipe Products as well as a re-introduction to their Marine Line.

All in all the Meguiars Marine Line is definitely complete and a player in the market, and they seem to be attacking it well, over time to hold any market share they attain, they will need to improve on a few of their products. However with their brand name recognition in the auto care industry, which has significant competition they should be able to carry this strong image into the future with the Marine Industry. StarBrite Products sell quite well and tend to out sell the Meguiars by only a little bit now, originally they were just about the only game in town. But we are seeing the Meguiars line fight for market share. What we found is that you cannot always find a complete line of StarBrite products at your local Marina, as most companies are not carrying the full line and neither are they willing to carry the Meguiars full line. So there are issues already. Wal-Mart does carry the RV Wash and Boat Waxes from Meguiars and other automotive products in the Meguiars Line. We feel that the better products for efficiency and ease of use definitely come from the professional detail products companies such as Auto Magic, Pro , Beauty Shine, Stoner, etc. And we do not discount Meguiars mainstay products such as the Meguiar's Mirror Glaze or their excellent buffing compounds. But then again in the buffing compound arena we also prefer much of what 3M has to offer:

http://www.3m.com.br/us/automarineaero/

and they too have a Marine Line of great products. But as of yet we are not overly excited about the rest of Megiuars retail line. The new wipes are cool enough and it appears have entered the market along with the other brands such as Lexol for their leather cleaner wipes. All in all we totally applaud the Meguiars line of Marine Products and feel comfortable with about six of the products, which our tea will most likely be using. These are the products, which we felt did favorably in our tests. We are hard on all our suppliers. And to the credit of Meguiars they are a tireless company with regards to upgrading and listening to their customers. And we all know good things come with age.

Information On Bareboat Charters Helping You Get Started

Information On Bareboat Charters - Helping You Get Started
By Peter Leigh

Bareboat charters are yachts that you can rent and operate by yourself. If you are not experienced in handling a yacht, you can hire a captain to take over this job for you. The idea behind a bareboat charter is that you do not get any extras - just the bare boat. You have to supply your own food and entertainment and if you want toys for watersports you either have to bring your own or rent them. Most of the bareboat yachts are between 30 and 50 feet in length and you can choose bareboat charters using power, sailing or catamaran boats.

In order to book bareboat charters without hiring a captain, the yacht charter company will need to see proof that you can handle the yacht on your own. You will either have to show the bareboat yacht charter company proof of your experience in handling smaller or similar sized yachts or present a certificate from a boating course. For most yacht charters in the Caribbean, companies do not require certification, but it is a requirement in some parts of the world, such as Greece. If you do need to hire a captain, this is not included in the price of the charter and you have to pay the captain yourself.

There are bareboat charters that will allow you to book a one-way charter. This allows you to sail to a destination and leave the yacht there. This will cost you more because unless someone books a one-way bareboat yacht charter back from that destination the company has to find a way of getting the yacht back to home base. It is quite likely that it will be cheaper on you to charter the yacht for a few extra days and return it yourself.

You can make your booking for a bareboat yacht charter online. However, you will need to make at least a 25% deposit on the total cost of the charter and there are bareboat charters that require 50% of the total as a deposit. You will also receive a contract to sign and a sailing resume to complete from the yacht charter company. Most of the charter companies do accept credit cards, but there are some smaller companies that only accept check, cash or money order payments.

When you book bareboat charters you usually get just the yacht itself. Although some of the charter companies do include a dinghy in the cost, most of the Florida companies require that you rent the dinghy. Since this is a necessity, you have to allow for the extra cost. You wont have any of the amenities that you are used to at home, such as a television or microwave. You will also have to supply your own linens, dishes, food and water. If you want to book one of the bareboat charters that will take you to another country, you do need to make sure you have your passport with you or you wont be allowed to dock in the ports.

Doggin' Steamboat Springs Colorado: Where To Hike With Your Dog

Doggin' Steamboat Springs, Colorado: Where To Hike With Your Dog
By Doug Gelbert

James Crawford is the father of Steamboat Springs, Colorado having settled in a cabin on Soda Creek in 1874. Instead of becoming Crawfordville, legend has it the town was named for the rhythmic chugging of a hot spring that disgorged mineral water 15 feet into the air. The medicinal springs brought the first settlers to the valley and later the town became an international ski jumping mecca with the arrival of Norwegian champion Carl Howelsen in 1913. Today outdoor enthusiasts and dog lovers dont wait for the snow to fall to make their way to Steamboat Springs.

In town, the Yampa River Trail system links Steamboat Springs with the surrounding mountain area. The trails provide easy dog walking along the Yampa River and through city parks. More than 150 hot springs gurgle around Steam- boat Springs. Following the Hot Springs Walking Tour takes your dog to seven historic springs, including Heart Springs. The origin and history of each spring is detailed on interpretive signs. Look for the descriptive brochure in the Chamber Info Center (1255 South Lincoln/Highway 40).

To get out of town head for the Spring Creek Trail, an 8-mile round-trip that begins at the corner of Amethyst Drive and East Spring Street. The route is an easy canine hike on a well-graded trail that meanders up to the Spring Creek Reservoir and Dry Lake Campground.

Just north of town is Fish Creek Falls, a 283-foot plunging waterfall that is the towns leading visitor attraction. Canine hikers will know it as the starting point for the Fish Creek National Recreation Trail. Long wooded inclines at the beginning of the trail give way to a steep, rocky climb before leveling off in alpine meadows on the 5-mile journey to Long Lake. Continuing past Long Lake, you shortly reach the Continental Divide. The elevation gain on this out-and-back trail, Forest Service Trail #1102, rises from 7400 to more than 10,000 feet and and patches of snow in shady spots will delight your dog even in summer.

Steamboat Springs is located northwest of Denver, on US 40.

Boating Equipment for Safe Boating

Boating Equipment for Safe Boating
By Eriani Doyel

The proper boating equipment can make the difference between a delightful boating experience and a disastrous one. While every state and province may have different regulations about what types of boating equipment are required, the fact of the matter is that some safety equipment should be carried whether it is legally required or not. This boating equipment is designed not only to keep the passengers safe, but the boat working properly as well. Here is a brief list:

1. Paperwork and Documentation: Do not head out on the river, lake, or the open sea without a proper boating license as required by law for any operator and also remember to carry your registration materials as well. Put this boating equipment all in a waterproof box or bag to keep them safe from water damage.

2. Flotation Devices: You may not like to wear those bulky life vests but there are many styles available which are lightweight and even self-inflating to make them less uncomfortable and easier to wear. Even if it is not required by law, it is recommended that everyone on the boat wears this piece of boating equipment. Some boats carry a life ring as well.

3. Lights: Navigational lights and distress signals are necessary boating equipment for everyone. You will be glad if you get caught out on the water at night unexpectedly.

4. Navigational Aids: Even if you know the area fairly well, it is a good idea to carry navigation charts and maps and a compass and even a GPS system if you want to spend the extra money.

5. Noise making tools: Take a horn, whistle or some other noise maker to use to warn other boats or water skiers of your approach.

6. Ventilation: This boating equipment is vital for houseboats because of the danger of carbon monoxide poisoning.

7. Fire Extinguishers: Every boat should have at least one fire extinguisher. You never know when an engine fire or other emergency will put your boat in danger-and help could be far away.

8. Anchor: This keeps the boat from drifting when you stop to fish, or if you stall out on the water.

9. Pumping Equipment: This gets rid of things like bilge water or human waste on the boat safely and cleanly.

10. Tool Box and Repair Manual: Make sure that you have tools and that you know how to use them for those quick on the water repairs.

Boat Washing 101 Spring is Here Let's Go Boating

Boat Washing 101 - Spring is Here, Let's Go Boating
By Lance Winslow

As a boat owner you know that washing the boat can be time consuming. You also know that the longer you put it off the harder it is to clean. The ideal time to wash a boat is after it has been used. In an ideal world we would have someone waiting for us after each use who would spend an hour cleaning it up and putting another coat of wax on it. If you have a pressure washer on the dock it behooves you to spray off the waterline before and after each use. It would also make sense to put a quick coat of wax on the hull. There are many products, which can quicken the boat cleaning process if you choose to do it yourself. There are many tools you can also use to assist you. One excellent tool is a roto-scrubber, which provides agitation and saves your muscles and back. Lets face it even a relaxing day on the water can make one fatigued. Under ideal conditions you would use a pressure washer with warm De-ionized or reverse osmosis water and a roto-scrubber and spend a ten minutes to fifteen minutes per side. This should be enough to get you through 40 to sixty feet.

There are many quick waxes on the market, which are relatively easy to use. There are several locations on the Internet to order such waxes if you search under; Marine Detailing Waxes. Meguiars makes one and another popular brand is Starbrite. Wal-Mart sells both brands on their shelves in the Super Wal-Marts.

Meguiars also has a really great self-help system so you do not use the wrong product on the wrong type of surface:

http://www.meguiars.com/rxmarine/marinerx.cfm

When using your soft bristle or roto-brush it is helpful to put your special boat washing soap in a bucket of warm water to help you remove any algae or moss on the boat hull. Warm water will work twice as good as cold water. You should wash the hull on the side of the boat away from the dockside first, then the bow and then pressure wash the top and then stand on the dock to clean the hull against the dock. As you pressure wash work from the top down. If you are not using de-ionized or reverse osmosis water then work in sections and shammy dry as you go to prevent water spots.

While you have the pressure washer out you may as well go hog wild and clean the dock too so you do not track anything on to your clean boat. Hope this helps. Think on it.

Boating Courtesy It's For Everyone

Boating Courtesy - It's For Everyone
By Wayne Gilbert

Do you know what boating courtesy means? Every summer, thousands of people take to the water. If you own a boat, whether it is a canoe or a full yacht on the water, you need to remember that there are certain common courtesies known by all people who go boating. Dont be the one who tried to do something foolish and ends up hurting boats, hurting people or hurting your reputation.

One of the biggest complaints among boaters is a crazy stunt that is not only very annoying, but very dangerous as well. Imagine being out on a boat, the water is calm and you are just a few lengths away from the shore. All of a sudden, a boater is headed strait for you. He gets only a couple of feet from your boat and then turns, barely missing you. He pulls out in front of you, grins and waves as he drives on. Meanwhile, he has probably scared all your fish away and would have been in an accident. Some new boaters think this stunt is clever, but it is actually very stupid and dangerous. People could be hurt. In some cases, hooks and poles are wrenched out of peoples hands, as other boaters doing this same stunt get too close and get caught up in the line.

Have some courtesy for other people boating. If you see someone fishing, slow down. Steer your boat in a wide arch away from the other boats if possible. Getting too close is dangerous and stupid and if you are caught doing it while the right people are watching, you could get a ticket, a hefty fine and possibly your boat taken away.

Also, never anchor within 100 feet of another boat, especially if someone is fishing. Your approach simply scares the fish away, and the other boater might be upset you are not showing some courtesy for his fishing. Stay away.

If you notice someone is having engine trouble, ask if they need some help. Again, if you would expect someone to do this for you one day, it is good to do this yourself. This is common boating courtesy. The least you can do is offer assistance.

Boating courtesy is just common sense. Imagine what you would want from other boaters if you were fishing in any spot. Today, many people are discovering the joys of boating and being out on the water. Share the same boating courtesy you would expect from other people.

Boat Provisioning The Floating Grocery Store

Boat Provisioning - The Floating Grocery Store
By Chris Campbell

How do you get to the grocery store when your a thousand miles from shore, and a thousand and two miles from the nearest grocery store? The short answer is you don't. The longer answer will be presented here, and it begins with a trip down below to see what you've got stashed in the galley of your boat. Provisioning for a extended boating trip is no small task. If you forget something, there's no quick run to the convenience store to pick up a couple of things. Out in the middle of the ocean, if you can't catch it, or find it somewhere in the galley, your not going to eat it. Here's a few quick ideas to get you started thinking about boat provisioning.

To start a list of what kind of provisions you think you'll need, draw up a menu with a weeks worth of meals your boating crew would enjoy. Then figure out what would be required to make each meal. This list should be a good base to build from when you actually start buying items for the boat trip.

Be sure to have some very simple to prepare meals. When weather is rough, and the boat galley is an unworkable environment, some pre-packaged meals that require no heating will be a saving grace.

Keep an eye out for foods that will stay fresh for long periods of time, or are packaged in such a way as to say fresh longer. Cheese that is packaged in wax, will stay good for a very long time. Some salami, sausage and pepperoni that is keep in the non-refrigerated section of the grocery store will stay good for months at a time.

Anywhere you can find a place to store snacks, be sure to take advantage of it. Boating always seems to make people hungry, but doesn't always seem to provide the opportunity to stop what your doing and make something fancy. Healthy snacks will be better to fuel the fires that keep the crew and the boat going.

Be careful of what foods you store together. They're not always compatible. Apples and carrots stored together, will often cause bitterness in the carrots. If onions are stored with potatoes, the onions will steal moisture from the potatoes.

Most fruit should be bought in the not-yet-ripe state, and then stored in a way to slow down the ripening process. Green apples stored in the dark should last a couple of weeks.

Give some thought to were you store items in the boat. Storage lockers closer to the hull and below the waterline will be cooler, and better for produce. Especially if you are going to be boating in warm tropical areas.

While there is a lot to consider, some thorough and logical planning will make things smoother come launch day. And while you may forget a few items, or lose a few perishables in transit, don't fret. It's only a thousand and two miles to the nearest grocery store.

Boat Movers

Boat Movers
By Kristy Annely

If one is moving to another part of the country, everything in the household has to be relocated. If someone in the house owns a boat, moving it safely will be a prime concern.

Boat movers require the boat to be properly prepared for transporting. They will not move the boat unless certain details are taken care of. The doors need to be closed properly. Batteries and cables must be disconnected. Boats should be covered by shrink-wrap. The shrink-wrap is a heat sealed surface to ward off hot sun and water from chafing the surface. Wooden boats are transported in a custom cradle. Most boat movers do not accept responsibility for damage if the boat was not prepared for transport.

The driver transporting the boat will carry out a survey of the exteriors of the boat. He makes a report of the condition of the boat. Damages if any have to be reported while taking delivery of the boat.

The transporters haul boats and yachts of all sizes. These services have qualified skippers and good crew. They give detailed information on port delivery, freight and insurance. Training is given on boat navigation, sailing and boat handling.

The most common and recommended type of boat moving service is the roll on roll off type. It is commonly called the RO/RO. The boat is towed on a trailer or a cradle into the ship and parked on the lower deck. During the journey the boat is secured in the deck. So there is no damage. The ship then carries the boat to its destination. When the boat reaches its destination it is driven off again in the trailer or cradle on which it had entered the ship.

If the boat fits the size of a container of a container vessel, then it is transported in the container. For oversized boats, a flat rack and strap is used to secure the boat. Sometimes the boat is loaded directly from the water. In some cases the boat is loaded from a barge into the ship.

The main job of boat movers is to assess the clients needs and transport boats in a timely and safe manner.

Movers provides detailed information on Boat Movers, Car Movers, Furniture Movers, House Movers and more. Movers is affiliated with Moving And Storage Companies.

Steamboat Springs Ski Packages

Steamboat Springs Ski Packages
By Elizabeth Morgan

When a town receives the sobriquet Ski Town, USA, the rage of its winter thrill becomes very evident. Steamboat Springs, which up until the nineteenth century was nothing more than a trapping and ranching community, inconsequential on the map of the known world, has today transformed into the foremost skiing destination worldwide.

Much before skiing became an Olympic sport; skis were used in Steamboat Springs as a mode of transport across the snow. It seems that skiing is almost in the blood of the locals and the city has churned out more skiing champions than any other region in North America. As a town dedicated to the winter sport, it is obvious that Steamboat Springs offers all imaginable service to its visitors who come for an experience in the snow. Skiing can be an expensive form of recreation and Steamboat Springs ski packages are perhaps the most economical options available.

A package tour, as the names suggests, is a deal neatly wrapped up in organized schedules that squeezes in every ounce of enjoyment possible. A ski package is designed to make every travel arrangement for the travelers and leave them free to have all the fun they can. Travel agencies organize everything, including transport facilities from the departure point, accommodations at Steamboat and the things that are to be done on the trip. The transport facilities cover nearly every city but some travelers might have to make it to a pick-up city on their own. Most hotels and resorts in Steamboat cater to visitors on travel packages and have reservations for travel agencies all year round. The agencies generally let travelers pick their desired accommodations for a specified list prior to departure.

Perhaps the most debatable aspect of Steamboat Ski packages is that the have a pre-determined skiing schedule, often created without the consent of the travelers. The ski lift tickets and the slope usage fees are usually paid before arrival and the booking cannot be cancelled or transferred. Also, the trails and slopes are pre-picked and the hours spent on each are limited, As a result, travelers have to ski when they are told to, where they are told to and for how long they are told to and not otherwise.

Stay Down to Earth in a Steamboat Springs Vacation Rental

Stay Down to Earth in a Steamboat Springs Vacation Rental
By Caitlin Moore

Youve never been to Colorado, but have just decided that youll follow your instincts and travel there for your next vacation. There are several resort towns to choose from; some sound posh, others more welcoming to families, but they all sound nice. Your eyes scan the map, and then settle on a little dot in the northwest corner. Steamboat Springs. Hmmmm, it sounds quaint, a little rustic, and somehow friendlier than some of the other towns. Thats it, youve decided. This is the place youre going to go.

Excellent choice, daydreamer. Your gut has led you to the right spot for alpine beauty and awesome activities within a charming, historic, small-town setting. Steamboat Springs, also known as Ski Town, USA, is as grounded as a place can be considering it exists at such a high altitude. The people are nice, the views are enchanting, and youll never suffer a dull moment thanks to all the outdoor pursuits and indoor diversions.

Lets say youre visiting during the summer, a fine time to capitalize on the mild weather, abundant sunshine, and boundless energy of the town. Youd like to attend some of the festivals that seem to go on for much of the year, and perhaps learn to kayak. Also, there are rumors of a strange contraption that combines a trampoline with bungee jumping, and as youve always been too afraid to jump off a cliff with your ankles tied to what amounts to a giant rubber band, you think youd like to give this slingshot-thingy a try.

You also heard that there are nearly 70 bars and restaurants to choose from in the town, and as going out to eat is one of your favorite parts of vacationing, you are looking forward to sampling the offerings that other people will be cooking. The city also has lots of shops that will provide you with those ever-important souvenirs, and a couple of museums that youd like to spend some time in.

With all this in mind, it is important that you find a place to stay that will not only house you comfortably and allow you to forget about the rest of the bustling world, but will keep you connected to the town you are so interested in exploring. You want to feel relaxed and truly away from it all, but dont want to have to drive around or take a shuttle on very many occasions, if at all. Can you really have it both ways?

Of course you can. Its called renting a vacation home that is conveniently located to all that you want to see and do. This condo, cottage, bungalow, or whatever it is you decide on, can also have all the amenities youll need to keep you feeling comfortable, and if you like, as pampered as the movie stars staying in one of those other resort towns.

Picture a log cabin with an expansive deck overlooking a trickling creek. Vaulted ceilings, an oversized bathtub, and a deluxe barbeque grill might make you wish for a few more days away from your regular digs. Read a novel as you bask in the sun, walk to a nearby hiking trail, and enjoy a cocktail in your own kitchen. That was one afternoonwhat will all the others hold?

Visit this prime property in winter or summer, but remember that some of the best deals are to be had in the off season. Basically, this is good for warm weather hikers and not so good for ski-bunnies, but with such a variety of properties to choose from, you should be able to find what youre looking for at any point in the year. A winter visit might prove to be such a great time that youll return for a second helping of Steamboat Springs come summer, and obtaining the same condo for vastly discounted rates will make your trip just a little sweeter.

It sounds like your vacation fantasizing is really going to pay off. You let fate decide that you should go to Steamboat Springs, and now youll let your budget and your researching decide where to stay once you get there. Simply go online and peruse the many Steamboat Springs Vacation Rental options that exist out there, and get ready to fall into step with one of the warmest and most charming places in Colorado.

Visit www.HomeAway.com as you begin to plan all your future vacations.

The Best Vacation Florida Everglades Airboat Ride

The Best Vacation - Florida Everglades Airboat Ride
By Cynthia Hardin

My husband retired last year, and I have always been a stay at home mom raising the kids. However, our wonderful children have since grown and are living their own lives, so my husband George and I can do what we want to now. Not that we couldnt when our kids were growing up, but you know what I mean we can start having adventures again.

Im always amazed at the fun things George has up his sleeve after all these years. I mean, were in our late 60s and people often mistake us for newlyweds! Can you imagine? George always gives me little hints about our trips and all he would say is that we were going to a Florida attraction Id never guess. He sure was right! George surprised me just last week on our 45th wedding anniversary with a brochure on Cypress Airboats. Never in my life did I imagine Id be riding on any kind of open air boat in the midst of snakes, lizards, alligators, and lord knows what else.

I would have thought George might take me to one of the better-known Florida Attractions like Disney World or Busch Gardens. I am so glad he chose an airboat tour instead! It was so thrilling! George selected an early morning airboat tour, and we had breakfast just before we started. When I stepped onto the airboat, I was really nervous, but George just tucked my arm under his and guided me along like he has all these years. We were able to see alligators, and the only place I ever thought Id want to see alligator skin was on a purse! It was just so exciting. I felt like I could reach out and touch the alligators, but of course, I didnt!

The best part of the airboat trip, aside from having a special tour of the Florida Everglades with my wonderful husband, was when we saw a blue heron. One of our first dates way back when was at a jazz club called the Blue Heron. There is no way George could have anticipated we would see a blue heron on our trip with Cypress Airboats, but it made our tour even more perfect.

If you are considering a trip to Florida, I would definitely recommend Cypress Airboats private tours over any other Florida Attraction. Sure, you could go ride roller coasters and see how movies are made, but those are common events in a persons life and will be logged with all the other memories you often forget. I cant think of any attraction in Florida that is more memorable that the Florida Everglades with their thick vegetation and fantastic wildlife. George and I had such a great time were thinking of going again for our 50th wedding anniversary and taking an even longer airboat tour!

Cynthia Hardin has become a frequent visitor to Cypress Airboat Rides. We are open year round, and offer both private and group tours. Airboat Rides

Steamboat Springs Hotel Rates

Steamboat Springs Hotel Rates
By Elizabeth Morgan

Located around the dizzy heights of the Rocky Mountains, Steamboat Springs is a winter destination like no other. It is town that was built around the skiing industry and that today offer visitors the chance to ski on trails that have been the training ground for many an Olympic champion.

Apart from the skiing, snowboarding and sledging, Steamboat Springs offer numerous other experiences such as art and culture through its distinct setting, museums and libraries. The place to stay depends up on the sort of vacation a visitor is looking forward to. If it is a thrilling holiday with long hours on the slopes then the ski lodges and resorts are the best bet. This is because they offer every service a skier could need from ski lifts and skiing equipment to instructors and medics. Not to mention that these resorts are also the closest to the slopes and offer the most through knowledge of the trails. The rates for these lodgings can be high, since they are the most popular options. The average pricing for a night's stay can run well up to the $500 mark in peak seasons. Besides, skiing facilities may cost extra and pre-booking may be essential to avoid any lat minute disappointment.

For the thrifty, Steamboat Springs has a number of modest accommodations available for rates as low as $100 a night. These options include the smaller, less known hotels, wayside motel and B&B's. Although these options are usually further from the towns center and from the slopes, getting transport to these places is relatively easy. Most of these lodges cannot cater to large groups of skiers and generally have don't have rooms big enough to properly store their skiing equipments. They are the kind that offers the charm of small house living to couples and small families who have come for a vacation on a budget. The most endearing feature is that, instead of the impersonal buffet system followed in bigger establishments, many have sit-down meals with all residents.

Luxury accommodations are also abundant in Steamboat Springs for an average of about $750 a night.

Boat Lift Parts

Boat Lift Parts
By Max Bellamy

Prior to buying any boatlift, you need to do your homework and know what replacement parts you may eventually need. There are a variety of companies, service providers and manufacturers who will give you information on repairing and replacing parts and have service departments who will do it for you.

You can think of your boatlift as your boat's garage. It is there to protect your boat when not in use. When a boat is sitting in the water, there are a number of damging factors that come into play. If you use your boat in saltwater, the salt invariably eats away at the hull, even if the hull is of the highest quality. If you use your boat in freshwater, there are still a number of microbes and chemicals that can reduce the integrity of your boat's exterior. Your boatlift protects your investment by keeping it clear of these harming agents when you're not using it.

Motors are the most important repair or replacement part that you may ever need. Most of the boatlift manufacturers are top providers of quality boatlift motors. If you have a hydraulic boatlift, you need a good motor.

Other important boat lift parts include the up and down switch, galvanized pipe bearings, power hoist, CFCI, power hoist with stainless steel plate and bolts, motor cover, HP electric motor, galvanized pipe bearings, bearing bracket, strap bearing, snatch block and many others.

These parts can easily be found at any boating/marina store, or check on line for boatlifts. With a good boatlift, your expensive boat will last a lot longer.

Key West Boats

Key West Boats
By Marcus Peterson

Watching the sun set on the beautiful, serene waters surrounding Key West, one would definitely want to get as close to the scene as possible. Key West offers visitors the option of getting on to a boat to take in spectacular views.

You can take a ride to the tropical reefs offshore, you can be part of a group abroad a sports fishing charter sailing into the Straits of Florida or the Gulf of Mexico. The other choices open to you are daytime or sunset cruises aboard a catamaran or tall ship. Nature lovers will be thrilled by a nature tour of the backcountry flats, or an excursion to Fort Jefferson in the Dry Tortugas. There are several options of boat rides to choose from. There is a private charter however, if you want company you can join a small group or sign on with a large group.

The Florida Keys is a National Marine Sanctuary, hence strict rules regarding usage apply. Unless you know the waters very well, it is not advisable to go alone on a boating trip. You will be liable for fines if found engaged in any action deemed as causing harm to the delicate environmental balance. Generally all boats keep to the deep tidal channels and move along at recommended speeds. This is essential to ensure that in case the boat hits a flat, it should be able to back off easily. Backing off becomes a difficult affair if your boat has run aground. Boats in places where they are not supposed to be attract fines.

Brown, brown, run aground; yellow, yellow will ground a fellow; green, green, go between; blue, blue, come on through! - is a chant that locals use. The color coding tells them how to deal with a particular area in the water.

If you are inclined towards action, you can join a charter group that offers trips for snorkeling, scuba diving, jet skiing parasailing and kayaking tours. If you would rather lie back and relax you have the options of dolphin watching and taking a trip in a glass bottom boat. Overnight trips to the Marquesas Keys or the Dry Tortugas hold the promise of spectacular views. Some resorts offer the opportunity of water adventures. You get to drive your own speed boat, explore Mangrove Islands, and to do some swimming and snorkeling.

The Winter Park Scenic Boat Tour Entertaining Informative and a Visual Delight

The Winter Park Scenic Boat Tour - Entertaining, Informative and a Visual Delight
By Susanne Pacher

The Winter Park Scenic Boat Tour, founded in 1938 and located just 15 minutes north of downtown Orlando, is one of these lovely side trips that combine beautiful scenery, a bit of local history, some close-up exposure to local wildlife and vegetation with a relaxing outing in a slow-moving 18-passenger pontoon boat, all complete with expert (and sometimes humorous) narration provided by the boat's captain.

The tour takes you through 3 lakes: Lake Osceola, Lage Virginia and Lake Maitland. On this gorgeous day, with brilliantly blue skies, the boat whisked us past hundreds of beautiful water-front estates, many of which were originally built in the 1920s and originally sold for $20,000, while fetching between $500,000 and several million in today's booming Central Florida real estate market. Even boathouses are worth between $30,000 and $40,000.

In Lake Virginia we came up close to the grounds of Rollins College, one of the top rated private liberal arts colleges in the South Eastern United States, founded in 1885 by New England Congregationalists. Rollins College is the oldest recognized college in the state of Florida with a small student body of 1,700 students, housed on a beautiful 70 acre Mediterraean Revival Campus. Our expert captain / tour guide mentioned that tuition at the college is $38,000 and the ratio of students to professors is 12:1.

Condos are located right next to the college, selling today for between $450,000 to $1 million. As we approached the narrow Venetian Canal that would take us from Lake Virginia to Lake Maitland, our captain made us aware of all the interesting vegetation growing alongside the canal: Egyptian papyrus, Spanish moss (an airplant and not a parasite), the Princess flower, colourful bougainvilleas and resurrection fern. We saw a variety of birds, including an Osprey eagle, a snake bird, a great blue heron and a white egret, which used to be the good luck bird of the Seminole Indians.

On Lake Maitland we learned that there was an alligator cave from which 150 alligators were removed into the Florida Everglades to prevent a rather dangerous collision between local wildlife and civilization.

Along the Venetian Canal we also saw variegated ginger and banana trees, as we slowly passed under the arched Palmer Avenue Bridge. Philodendrons, palmgrass, bamboo, a plant called firespikes and an interesting arrangement of air potatoes, round tubers hanging down from a tree branch, adorned our journey through the canal.

At 450 acres and 30 feet deep, Lake Maitland is the largest of the 3 lakes covered by the boat tour. A dam controls the water level and interestingly, the lakes all drain northwards into the St. John's River which flows into the Atlantic near Jacksonville. The Kraft Azalea Gardens, located on Lake Maitland on Alabama Drive off Palmer Avenue, feature thousands of azaleas, tropical shrubs and trees. Azaleas are in full bloom January through March.

Our expert captain also pointed out various mansions that have been used as backdrops in various movies and commercials. Lake Maitland also features several small islands with rather naked looking trees that house colonies of cormorants, fishing birds that consume up to a pound of fish a day.

We slowly made our way back from Lake Maitland to Lake Osceola where our relaxing and scenic boat tour came to an end. On this gorgeous day it was a fabulous outing that provided an appropriate historical context for a further exploration of the beautiful city of Winter Park.

The Scenic Boat Tour, a Winter Park institution for almost 70 years now, is located at the end of Morse Avenue on the shores of Lake Osceola. It is a very affordable outing at $8 for adults and $4 for children (children under 2 ride free). Boat tours run every day from 10 am to 4 pm (except Christmas). For further information contact the Winter Park Scenic Boat Tour.

Steamboat Springs Timeshares

Steamboat Springs Timeshares
By Elizabeth Morgan

When the option of uying the hotel instead of just ent a room in it was offered to vacationers in the early 1960's, an overwhelming number of people took it. Thus, the concept of timeshare was born and since then has opened up a big market in the holiday industry. Today, popular vacation destinations like Steamboat Springs offer a range of hotel, resorts and condominiums that are part of the timeshares arrangement.

As the name suggests, timeshares refer to the shared ownership of vacation properties. It is a system where, individuals pay for the maintenance of a property for a specified period of time, during which the property is completely owned by them. In this period, the individuals can use the property or as a private retreat or loan or rent it out. When the stipulated period is over, the property is vacated and the next owner can move in. This system can apply to vacation houses and condominiums, which generally fall with only one person at a time. On the other hand, for larger hotels and resorts, the applicable properties are just single rooms that can be bought as timeshares. Steamboat Springs timeshares allow visitors to spend vacation weeks as well as long-term sabbaticals in the any one of the respective properties.

The biggest names in the timeshare industry are Resort Condominiums International (RCI) and Interval International (II), which also have the largest turnovers for marketing and selling timeshare. Both these internationally recognized names operate in Colorado and between them have about fifteen member properties in Steamboat Springs. These include the premier luxury condominium options in Steamboat such as the Phoenix, Thunder Mountain, the Village, Alpine Ridge and Sunburst. A detailed list of all options and their respective feature and amenities is available on the online portals of these companies. Timeshares exchange offers in Steamboat Springs include the option of fixed or floating vacation weeks and a system of earning loyalties that can give the vacationers free, extra weeks.

There Are Many Reasons Why You Should Choose Inflatable Boats Over Traditional Boats

There Are Many Reasons Why You Should Choose Inflatable Boats Over Traditional Boats
By Kevin Brown

If you spend any time in or around the water then you probably own or have considered owning an inflatable boat. There are many uses for inflatable boats and many people own them for a variety of very different reasons.

What Can I Use An Inflatable Boat For?

Inflatable boats were originally used in the Navy to haul cargo and missiles back and forth to larger ships. Eventually the inflatable boats moved into the recreational market for fishing, personal transportation and for tenders on larger boats, particularly yachts.

Some other uses are:

* Scuba diving
* Search and rescue
* Emergency lifeboats
* Security patrol
* Law enforcement
* Fishing and hunting
* Pleasure
* Water sports
* Many others

What Are Some Benefits Of An Inflatable Boat?

There are many advantages to an inflatable boat over a hard sided boat, but to see the true benefits you really need to know what you plan on using your boat for.

Are They Heavy?

Inflatable boats are extremely lightweight in comparison to more traditional hard sided boats. And the fact that they are light weight makes them an excellent choice for many people. This is great if you are using your boat for fishing. Instead of towing a regular dinghy or canoe behind your vehicle you will be able to strap your inflatable boat to the roof of your car or even strap it into the bed of your truck.

The lightweight nature of the inflatable boat is excellent if you need to pull your boat up on the shore of the lake, or river during a fishing trip. One or two people can easily pull an inflatable boat up on shore a safe distance.

What About Stability?

A big concern of most people have when they are considering an inflatable boat over a more traditional boat is the stability of the inflatable. Will it be tipsy or unsteady when you are standing in it? This is a major and very common misconception of most people. In fact, an inflatable boat is generally much more stable than a traditional boat.

Because of their buoyancy tubes, inflatable boats are actually known for their incredible stability. And because of these buoyancy tubes these boats actually sit flat in the water which makes them virtually impossible to flip over. This is a great feature for people who might be a little bit nervous about small boats, or especially scuba divers who need to flip backwards into the water and pull themselves up and into the boats.

Why Choose An Inflatable Boat?

There are a number of reasons why inflatable boats make a better choice than the more traditional aluminum or fiberglass boats. Depending on why you need a small boat will depend on why you are better off with an inflatable.

If you are a fisherman, a lightweight inflatable canoe makes a much better choice than a traditional hard shell canoe. With an inflatable you will be able to carry the boat to the river or lake by yourself, which is very handy if you prefer to fish by yourself. Also you will be able to transport the boat to and from your fishing site easier and without fear of scratching your vehicle if you choose to transport it on top of the vehicle.

If you are a yacht owner looking for a tender for your larger craft an inflatable boat is the best choice for a few reasons. It is very important to yacht owners that they not scratch their beautiful boats; with an inflatable, those concerns are virtually eliminated, because these boats are made from materials that are soft and will not mark the surfaces of other boats.

Also, because inflatable boats are lightweight they can easily be brought on board when the yacht is under sail. However, just because you have an inflatable does not mean that you cannot attach a trolling motor to it. In fact most inflatable boats allow quite large motors to be attached to them. Although many inflatable boats are not built for performance and speed, some are built for speed and efficiency. However, even if you have a motor you should always carry paddles with you and you should always wear a life jacket.

All Purpose Inflatable Boats

Inflatable boats are much more than the image of a blow up boat that you played with in the pool as a child. You can now attach motors to these boats, put boat seats in them and even drive through the ocean surf at top speeds. This is much more than the boat that you remember as a child!

You can get inflatable kayaks, inflatable canoes, inflatable rowboats and fishing boats. No matter what you need a small boat for; there is an inflatable boat that is perfect for your needs.

Boat Maintenance Your Six Step Easy Cleaning Routine

Boat Maintenance - Your Six Step Easy Cleaning Routine
By Lex Sewell

Keeping your boat looking great does not need a huge amount of time and effort, and it certainly doesn't require expensive cleaning products. If you do things in the correct order, then life becomes much easier. With some friends to help, you can get the job done in a few simple steps.

1) The Quick Clean

First, give the entire boat a very quick clean to remove surface dust and dirt. On the outside, this should be done by rinsing with plenty of water. You may need to be a little more careful inside, taking particular care of the electrics.

2) The Proper Wash

Clean all the main surfaces thoroughly using a general-purpose boat soap. Preparing surfaces for treatment is crucially important, that grime has to come off! If you find some stubborn stains, more powerful cleaning agents may be needed.

3) Repairing Any Damage

Hopefully you won't have too do this, but if anything has been damaged then now is the time to fix it. Cracks should be filled, scratches should be polished out, and any oxidation should be removed using an abrasive cleaning compound. Always use the least abrasive that will cope with the job.

4) Wax the Main Surface

Everything on your boat needs protection. The main surfaces will usually be waxed, which keeps dirt away, prevents oxidation and adds a beautiful shine. The wax you choose is to a certain extent personal preference. If you experiment by using several different waxes, you will soon discover that some are much easier to apply than others. Liquid wax requires considerably less effort, but harder waxes usually last a little bit longer. One of the keys to success is waxing on a regular basis. For this reason many people choose liquid wax, then maybe a tougher outer coating once a year before winter sets in.

5) Protective Coatings for Everything Else

Wood, metal and glass also benefits from a little care and attention. A few minutes spent using specialist cleaners and polishes makes a surprising difference to the overall look of your boat. If you try, you can make it shine!

6) Most Important of All

When your boat is completely dry, cover it before you leave. A good boat cover is by far the most important factor in keeping your boat looking its best. Preventing damage and decay is much easier than fixing it, so don't cut any corners here. Your cover must be in perfect condition, and it should be replaced every few years. The wrong cover can actually cause problems rather than solving them so be careful what you buy. If you are in any doubt, do some research and find out about the different types of cover that are available. There is an excellent web site at http://www.boatcoversadvice.com that can help with this.

If following these simple steps becomes part of a regular routine, your boat should stay happy and healthy for many years to come. Not only that, but when you come to sell it you will find that this careful maintenance has had a dramatic effect on the resale value.

Buying the best cover you can find will greatly reduce the amount of maintenance that is required. Specialist fabrics like Sunbrella offer much better protection than standard plastic sheeting, and it's important to get a custom fit. There is a useful list of features to look out for at http://www.boatcoversadvice.com

Boat Tour from Cologne to Koenigswinter

Boat Tour from Cologne to Koenigswinter
By Manfred Richter

If you're visiting Cologne, Germany, it might also be a great idea to allocate 1 day for a boat tour from there all the way to Koenigswinter. The ticket office is located in front of the boats' port near Cologne's old town. This tour is daily and takes 4 hours forth and due to downstream current, 3 hours back. Just sit back and relax while enjoying smaller town views south of Cologne. The boat docks in four ports before reaching Koenigswinter but you don't have to do something, just stay on your seat so new passengers won't get yours.

Koenigswinter is a town part of Nordrhein-Westfalen region located on the foot of the Siebengebirge, a mountain and hill range. It's famous for its small town charm, having a lovely promenade consisting of hotels, restaurants, cafes, old houses directly facing the river. Also experience its shopping - you can buy some souvenirs from the place. Go walk to its narrow old town streets, you can find some old wine houses and stores that might be of interest. But Koenigswinter is mostly famous for the Drachenfels Burg (dragon's rock castle) which is located on the tip of the Drachenfels, accessible by the Drachenfels Railway. Legend says that a dragon on this rock was slain by Siegfried, a German epic hero.

On the way down from the Drachenfels, you can visit the Drachenburg (castle). This castle was built in 1882 by Baron Stephan von Starter, a successful stock trader but he actually never lived here. From the castle, prefer to walk on your way down, stop by the Winzerhaeuschen and get yourself some refreshing drinks. From there, continue walking down to the Honighaeuschen, the honey houses, don't just get too near to it. If you still have time, visit the Nibelungenhalle, a reptile zoo, just right next to the honey houses.

For families with children who want to visit the place, there's a SeaLife in Koenigswinter. It's a sea aquarium where you can experience the creatures up close. It's located directly in front of the river port. Aside from that, there's also an open-air swimming pool and fun area called Lemmerzbad located in a nature park below the castle.

Don't forget to be at the port on time so not to miss your boat back to Cologne. Have a nice trip!

Boat Detailing Final Process in the Reconditioning Applying the Protective Sealant on Gel Coat

Boat Detailing - Final Process in the Reconditioning - Applying the Protective Sealant on Gel Coat
By Lance Winslow

It is often recommended that you do not use any natural or pure Carnauba automotive waxes as they will tend to yellow the gel coat over time and not properly seal the boat from environmental marine contaminants, however we do not always agree with this. It is not recommended that you use any paste waxes except we do strongly recommend using 3M Ultra Performance, which is a paste wax. Do not use any acrylics, nor any Teflon products (Teflon yellows over time) as most of these products are gimmicks and they can be difficult to remove or properly apply.

Some, but not all silicones can tend to burn gel coats, which can heat up and cause quicker oxidation because it magnifies the suns rays on the surface. By hand or orbital polish, apply Meguiar's #55 premium marine sealant and let set up for at least 15 minutes or use Blue Magnum 80% Carnauba. It is a toss up, which will last longer, but both claim longevity in actual tests. To see if the sealant is ready to be removed take your finger in a well-lit area across the sealed area and if it streaks, then it is not properly set up yet. If it does not streak you may proceed and remove the sealant as necessary.

When you are doing the above procedures in dock or in slip, and you are using electrical cords with your machine polisher be extremely careful when working around water. You'll need to keep the cord out of water if at all possible. Be extra cautious when working on a boat in its slip. Electrocution is no fun, ask anyone on death row.

Super 1000W by Production is a good choice for a spray on sealant. You spray it on, let it sit for ten to fifteen minutes and gently wipe residual. It adds gloss, depth and protection. Use for quick maintenance or as an express marine detailing option. Production Company is based out of Stockton, CA.

By Robert Lipply

One of the perks of living in Pinellas County is the convenient access to the gorgeous Gulf of Mexico, Lake Tarpon, Tampa Bay and Lake Seminole. If you are a boat lover or enjoy a day of fishing on the water, you are in the right place. There are many boat ramps, parks, and private residences to launch a boat from.

To access Lake Tarpon, many people use facilities such as John Chestnut Sr. Park, and Anderson Park. With some of the best freshwater bass fishing in the area, you can also jet ski and even see an occasional sea plane from the water.

There are many places to access the Gulf of Mexico. If you live in Clearwater or North Pinellas you may try the Seminole Boat Ramp, or Dunedin near Edgewater Park. Boaters enjoy fishing near Anclote Island, and the bridges of Clearwater Beach and Sand Key for snook, red fish, and trout. You can also pick up a fishing charter at the Clearwater Beach Marina. And dont forget offshore fishing in the gulf. It is one of the best places to catch grouper and king fish.

If you live in the southern portion of Pinellas County such as St. Petersburg, Treasure Island or Madeira Beach, you may want to launch your boat and fish near Johns Pass, or in the Intercoastal Waterways. Johns Pass is also a great place to pick up a charter fishing adventure with an experienced guide. Let these captains show you the best places to fish, learn some new techniques, and get the necessary gear to have with you to maximize your fishing excursions.

And dont forget about Tampa Bay. Phillipe Park in Safety Harbor has a small boat ramp, and there is a larger ramp off the Courtney Campbell Bridge. Closer to St. Petersburg, the Sunshine Skyway Bridge has a separate fishing pier for those wishing to fish from the shore. Tampa Bay is a great place to boat, water ski, and fish for the day. When you fish near the bridges or in the open water in Tampa Bay, youre sure to reel in a few great catches!

House Boats

House Boats
By Thomas Morva

There are two ways of looking at the word houseboat: a house that floats on water or a boat with all necessary amenities you get at home. Either way, a houseboat is a permanent place of residence, where you can enjoy the benefits of a house on land.

Houseboats can either be recreational or residential. A recreational houseboat is more compact in nature, though with most amenities intact. Also, it may have the luxury of powerful motors to take it places, apart from facilities like a water tank, a generator and other services. Conversely, a residential houseboat is pretty much resigned to a life beside the dock.

Houseboats may be new to the United States, but Asian and European countries share a long history with them. It is common in some parts of Asia to see fishing communities living on temporary houses that are floating on logs. In the Netherlands, at Amsterdam and other cities linked by canals, houseboats are more modern in character and can often be sighted along waterways.

Although an attractive proposition, it is sensible to check out the local laws before buying a houseboat. Many cities have stringent laws on its use, particularly when it comes to sanitation. It is imperative for a residential houseboat (or more precisely one with permanent residents) to be suitably connected to the power supplies and a sewage system. Luxury houseboats that have temporary use of a dock are usually not subject to those laws.

The reasons for owning a houseboat are manifold. One is the aesthetic setting of the location where the houseboat is anchored, which is often underdeveloped and with a natural feel. Secondly, it could be that property on water is less exorbitant than on land. Houseboat owners generally have their own society, with people sharing the same interests.

Of course, houseboats are now fast becoming a tourist attraction. In the state of Kerela, in India, houseboats with luxurious amenities are a great attraction.

Boat Detailing Stainless and Chrome Cleaning

Boat Detailing - Stainless and Chrome Cleaning
By Lance Winslow

Good quality deck hardware of stainless steel or chrome is highly resistant to corrosion and the marine environment, but it still needs some maintenance if you want to keep it looking good. Make sure you offer this service if you notice small streaks of surface corrosion due to oxidation of the fasteners. This type of corrosion can be easily removed with a good metal polish. After you are done, protect it with a light coat of marine wax or a light coat of moisture displacing corrosion resistant lubricant. The wax will last longer. On aluminum fittings, polish until the applied polish turns black. Sprinkle Arm & Hammer baking soda on a rag and wipe the black right off or use mineral spirits and squirt it on and wipe it off.

Believe it or not, if you use a lemon peel, it will cut down on grime that other cleaners miss. If you think that is too strong use lemon oil that you use on cabin furniture as a substitute for stainless steel cleaner. Rubbing alcohol also works on stainless steel. When cleaning aluminum look for a grain direction. If you look close you will see it. Rub with the grain. Real bad stains can be rubbed with the shiny side of aluminum foil. Do not polish aluminum when it is 50 F or less outside as it may scratch. Do not use cleaners containing ammonia such as window cleaner as they can cause pitting.

Silver polish works fabulous on aluminum. For brass, go cheap. One tablespoon of flour, one tablespoon of salt and one tablespoon of vinegar. Apply the powder mixture with a clean damp rag and wipe off the tarnish and shine. Wash with soapy water later. If its a tough stain, cut a lemon in half, dust the cut end with baking soda and rub on small sections at a time. The baking soda adds the necessary mild abrasive to scrub your brass back to life. You may also use Nev-R-Dull a canister of presoaked wading which can be used to polish the aluminum and metal or Magic Mix from Valco Products in Cincinnati, OH.

Boat Cleaning and Detailing Service on the Potomac is a Viable Business

Boat Cleaning and Detailing Service on the Potomac is a Viable Business
By Lance Winslow

If you own a boat cleaning and detailing service in Maryland or Virginia perhaps you might consider the areas along the Potomac River? Everyone knows that the Chesapeake River is a great place to detail boats because there are so many and much of the competition spends their time over there instead of on the Potomac side.

There are many private coves, marinas and private docks with thousands of boats available to be cleaned and detailed. It is the perfect place for a boat cleaning and detailing business and yes all the Potomac River would be very viable place for a boat cleaning business.

During the winter you might also consider hibernation services for boats. Many people store their boats out of water at their dock or take it indoors for Dry-dock and shrink-wrap winter storage. A boat cleaning detailing service business might get a commission for signing up people for Dry dock storage or shrink wrapping in the winter time.

Or even make a deal with the facilities so that you can clean and detail boats before they go back in the water. This will certainly start off the boating season with a bang of new business. Cleaning and detailing boats can be very fun business for the nautical person. If you love boating and boats then a boat cleaning and detailing service all the Potomac might be a viable business for you. Please consider this in 2006.

Boating Charter Choices for Every Lifestyle

Boating Charter Choices for Every Lifestyle
By Eriani Doyel

Would you be interested in a boating charter that takes you out on the deep sea fishing adventure of a lifetime? Or maybe you are the type who would just like to spend your days sipping cool drinks by the onboard pool while someone whips up gourmet food to your tastes. A boating charter can range anywhere from a few hours out looking at dolphins to a full-fledged vacation of days or weeks at sea visiting exotic ports and islands along the way. While most people cannot afford the luxurious lifestyle of an extended boating charter vacation, many people can afford to try the shorter trips and may find them to be very enjoyable.

A bareboat boating charter is one of the less expensive options. You gain possession of the boat, but you have to hire the crew and bring your own supplies. With the increased popularity of yachting, this type of boating charter is also gaining in popularity. It is a way that you can own a yacht for a short period of time without going into all of the expense. Almost any type of boat can be hired for a barebones charter including a sailboat, a fishing boat, or a catamaran.

If you dont really feel comfortable in hiring your own crew and supplying the boat, you can do a time or voyage boating charter. The voyage charter has an already decided destination and you can hire all or part of the boat (meaning you split the total costs with other passengers.) A time charter is when you can decide the destination, but you only have the boat for a specified amount of time in this boating charter.

Although for most people any type of yacht would feel luxurious, some are more luxurious than others and are worthy of the title luxury yacht. A regular yacht will have sleeping quarters and sitting areas as well as a kitchen, bathroom and some other added amenities such as maybe a bar. But, a luxury yacht would have many rooms with luxurious furnishings, a gourmet kitchen, a Jacuzzi, and maybe a swimming pool as well.

Whether you decide that you can afford an afternoon of deep-sea fishing with the guys, or you want to spend a month touring the Greek Islands with a full crew and gourmet meals, you can charter a boat online or through a charter brokerage. You can easily find just what you are looking for.

Boating Safety Equipment You Must Have

Boating Safety Equipment You Must Have
By Kadence Buchanan

Whether you're piloting a 40-foot sailboat or a canoe, the United States Coast Guard requires that every boat carry certain safety equipment. The equipment is not expensive or hard to find and may save your life in an emergency. Boaters who carry the standard safety equipment are statistically far more likely to survive a boating emergency than those who don't.

The Coast Guard requires that there be a personal flotation device for each person present on the boat. Although the Coast Guard does not mandate that the personal flotation device actually be worn, some state laws require them to be worn at all times when the boat is underway by children under a certain age. Most reputable marinas will be able to provide you with information on applicable state laws regarding personal flotation devices. Additionally, if a boat is more than 16 feet in length a personal flotation device that can be thrown into the water, like a life ring, is required by the Coast Guard.

Every boat, of all sizes, must have a whistle or horn. This noisemaking device serves to warn other boats of your presence and to use as a distress signal in case of emergency. Boats larger than 39.4 feet must carry both a bell and a whistle. The whistle must be able to be heard at a distance of one half a nautical mile. The bell must be at least 7.87 inches in diameter.

Visual distress signals for night time use, such as emergency flares, are required on all boats traveling coastal waters, the Great Lakes, and any connecting body of water that is more than two miles wide. Larger boats are required to carry a daytime visual signal as well. Besides flares, other visual distress signals include flags, flashlights, water dye markers, and smoke signals.

Boats larger than 26 feet must carry a Coast Guard-approved fire extinguisher. Boats with no motors such as canoes or row boats and boats less than 26 feet that don't have permanent fuel tanks are not required to carry a fire extinguisher.

The Coast Guard recommends, but does not require additional safety items. These include a blanket, oars in case the motor is disabled, a bucket for bailing and a first aid kit. Other useful items include rain ponchos and a tarp or plastic garbage back to keep yourself and your boat dry in a storm.

Finally, the Coast Guard recommends filing a plan with a responsible party before you leave so that there is at least one person on land who knows where you plan to be.

Boat Covers Could Tarps Be The Secret?

Boat Covers - Could Tarps Be The Secret?
By Keith Larraby

When we think of marine boat covers I am positive that the majority of us will straight away think of something that can be real expensive. Well the answer to this is yes and no. If you decide to buy a basic boat tarp rather than a more expensive custom boat cover then the savings can be quite significant. Stock boat tarps will do exactly the same job and will wrap around your craft. A customized boat cover on the other hand will certainly be more neatly fitted to your boat but to be honest who is even going to think about the cosmetic difference in your stored boat.

Boat tarps although not tightly fitted to your boat can be purchased in a number of pre-set standardised shapes. These are usually long or rectangular with the obvious places for tying tarp clips or other tarp accessories. Once wrapped around your boat a tarp cord can be looped through the D holes and then pulled tight in order to seal the gaps that are left.

Due to the fact that some marine craft will be constructed of wood it is vital that you use a mildewproof tarps for the purpose. This will ensure that the tarp will keep your boat free from all the elements and also form any harmful 3rd party parasite.

More and more we are seeing people use boat tarps as a replacement to the more traditional boat cover. This is for reasons of both cost and the fact that boat tarps is much stronger in some cases than that of the professionally customised boat covers. For the sake of cosmetic reasons people are at last using their heads and opting for the more pocket friendly and in some cases superior boat tarps designs.

Another great reason to stick with boat tarps is that as with all objects that are open to the elements in time your tarps cover may end up with the odd tear or so. This is the case with the standard boat covers but the difference is that unlike the more pricey boat covers ready made instant repair kits are available. These kits are easy to use and cost a fraction of the price of paying to get a boat cover professionally repaired by and expert.

So they cost half the price and do the same job, If they need repairing this is easy and costs very little.

Keith Larraby runs a great website on the subject of tarps and how to find the best deals. For details and terrific tips, go to: http://buytarps.info

Steamboat Springs Motels

Steamboat Springs Motels
By Elizabeth Morgan

Colorado has some of the best skiing destinations in the United States and one of the best known among them is Ski Town, USA also called Steamboat Springs. Named after the infamous hot springs of the Rockies that to early settlers sounded like steamboats, the city of Steamboat Springs is fast becoming the preferred winter destination the world over.

Even a vacation in paradise can turn in to a nightmare with the wrong sort of lodging. Individuals have different preferences and not every establishment can cater to all of them. The town of Steamboat Springs, regardless of its size, has so many rentals and rooms on offer that it would be quite impossible for a vacationer not to find one to suit his tastes. The most popular staying options in the city are the winter resorts and ski lodges owing to their proximity to the famous slopes of the Rocky Mountains. However, if the tourist is interested in the attractions around the city the best places to stay are the wayside motels.

Apart from the snow-covered slopes, Steamboat Springs is also home to so some of the most accessible geothermal springs and hot water pools in North America. The Steamboat Health and Recreation Association as well as the Strawberry Park Natural Hot Springs, the best places to soak up the Earth's heat, are located on the outskirts of the city and neither provides long-term staying options. The motels located in their vicinity like the much-celebrated Rabbit Ears motel are a comfortable option to living in the main city.

During the summer seasons, when skiing activities are replaced with fly-fishing and kayaking, the highlights moves form the center town to the suburbs. The Forgotten Dangers of Boating

The Forgotten Dangers of Boating
By Tim Buchinger

Boating is one of the most enjoyable outdoor activities for people of all ages. Over time, boating has evolved into a safer activity, however much work still needs to be done in terms of safety education. Many recreational boaters make the mistake of assuming they can beat the odds, but without proper preparation this may not be the case.

Proper Equipment

When planning for a boating trip it is incredibly important to prepare your safety equipment properly. This includes but is not limited to a flares, horn, water bailer and lifejackets. A trip plan is also an essential part of safe boating. A trip plan is basically contains information about where you plan to go boating. It should be filed with someone responsible that can take the proper steps should an emergency occur.

Lifejackets

Lifejackets are essential for people of all ages. The misconception largely exists that if a child falls in the water an adult in decent physical condition will be able to save them. This is a very dangerous assumption as it is not always the case. Often a child that falls into the water will go below the surface of the water which means they may be hard to spot. Also, sometimes it is not immediately apparent that a child has fallen into the water. You may not even realize until it is already too late.

Man Overboard

When someone falls overboard it is important to not immediately jump in after them to try to save them. Someone who is struggling to stay above water may unwittingly pull their potential rescuer under water with them. Instead, you should use the proper safety equipment such as safety buoys and rope which will float on the surface.

Hypothermia

Hypothermia remains a large risk when boating in cooler waters. Someone who falls overboard could succumb to hypothermia thus limited their physical abilities and mental decisions. Their risk of survival drastically drops the longer they are in the water. Again, it is important not to jump in after them in an attempt to save them as the rescuer could themselves succumb to the cold waters.

Electrocution

Power lines are the most common cause of electrocution while boating. Proper care is rarely taken in ensuring that a metal part of the boat such as the mast touches a power line. This carelessness has led to many deaths or serious injuries over the years.

Weather

Careful consideration must be taken when determining the amount of effect the weather will have on your boating experience. Pay attention to the forecast ahead of time to make sure that bad weather is not approaching. Even while out on the water it is extremely important to pay attention to the marine forecast for your area as well as the colors and activity in the sky.

In conclusion, boating is a very enjoyable activity, however at no point should the safety aspects of boating be underestimated.

Boating is an activity enjoyed by all types of people. Visit The Boating Source for articles and tips about having a safe and enjoyable boating adventure.

Bahamas Yacht Charters Imagining Taking Your Own Boat To The Bahamas

Bahamas Yacht Charters Imagining Taking Your Own Boat To The Bahamas
By Peter Leigh

When you decide on Bahamas Yacht Charters you have over 500 miles of tropical waters to explore. The Bahamas is an archipelago that contains over 700 islands, so unless you have loads of cash you wont get to see them all in one charter vacation. Choose from crewed yacht charters or a bareboat charter, but whichever one you choose, you can decide where you want to go. Bahamas Yacht Charters can help you plan your vacation so that it fulfills your every need.

The difference in crewed yacht charters and bareboat charters is in the amenities that the yacht offers. You dont have to know how to sail the yacht if you want the cheaper bareboat, but you do have to supply your own food and supplies. In addition, you have to bring along your own lounge chairs and watersports equipment or choose to rent them from Bahamas Yacht Charters. With crewed yacht charters, you dont have to do any work aboard the yacht and everything is supplied for you. If you have lots of money to spend, you can choose one of the luxury yacht charters. Bahamas lends itself to dreaming of luxury, so for that once in a lifetime vacation, why not splurge?

As a rule, Bahamas Yacht Charters begin with a chart briefing at 9 A.M. Then you can sail at 10 and you have to have the yacht back by 10 at the end of the charter period. If you would prefer to have an afternoon sailing time, you have to request this when you book your yacht charters. The Bahamas is suitable for any time sailing and with the short distance from Florida to the Bahamas, it doesnt make any difference what time you leave. You do have to be careful of the weather if you book the yacht charter during hurricane season.

You can also begin and end the charter in the Bahamas. Fly into Abaco and take the yacht from there. For yacht charters, Bahamas tax rates are 4% of the total cost of the charter and you have to pay a daily insurance rate for the yacht. This depends on the size of yacht you charter. For example, the premium for yachts 41 feet and under is $33 per day and for those over 41 feet, the premium is $38 per day. The deductible with the yacht charter insurance is $400, which you must pay yourself if you cause any damage. Bahamas Yacht Charters supplies you with a full tank of fuel when you have a bareboat charter, but you must return the yacht with the tank full.

Sailing yachts from Bahamas Yacht Charters are much more expensive. A typical yacht charter will cost about $13,000, which does not include meals, docking, drinks and fees. During the summer, the yacht charters are based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and during the winter they are based in the Bahamas. If a group of people decide to get together and book a charter from Bahamas Yacht Charters, they can split the cost between them, which will significantly reduce the price per couple.
